Classic Coleslaw

A family favorite that's great for a cookout and even better the next day.
4 cups cabbage, shredded
1/2 cup carrots, shredded (more to taste)
1/2 cup onions, finely chopped (more or less to taste)
1/2 cup mayonnaise or to taste
1 Tbs fresh lemon juice or to taste (optional)
1/2 tsp sugar (optional)
salt and pepper to taste
Combine cabbage, carrots, and onions in a large bowl. Stir in mayonnaise. Season to taste with salt and pepper. For a tangy, sweet/sour variation that we happen to love, add lemon juice and sugar to the mayonnaise and stir well before adding to salad. About 8 servings.
